Compared to other professions, the pay is not great. In fact, many people choose this profession because they feel that it is a passion that they can then create a career from. All of these things make this job full of value and worth the difficulty and responsibilities. This article will cover professional ethics within high school teachers which cover their responsibilities as a teacher, including staying mindful of student's rights to privacy and protection from unnecessary harassment or corporal punishment . This is the form of education that children receive from those who have been trained to bring out the best in those students. As a society, we look to our teachers to show us what a professional is and what a teacher must do to raise students to be responsible and compassionate, contributing members of society. High school teachers deal with both students and parents every day who are going through many changes in their lives. It's important for everyone involved that teachers keep their focus on teaching and learning throughout these changes. First is protecting public school students from corporal punishment. In public schools, corporal punishment is a method of punishment in which an administrator or teacher physically inflicts pain upon a student as a means of discipline. In most areas, it is illegal for teachers to hit students with anything except their hand, but in some areas it is still legal for teachers to hit students using a belt. Educating yourself and your colleagues about this practice can help ensure that your school remains corporal punishment free. Second is respecting the rights of parents and students. Parents have earned the right to make certain decisions about their children's education.  As a teaching professional, you need to respect those decisions even if you disagree with them or see them as inappropriate. Fundamental to the right of parents and the confidential nature of student records is the right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures.  Teachers must respect this right, by not searching students' personal property or looking through their belongings unless there is a reasonable suspicion that one may be using drugs. "When you are preparing for your first meeting with a new interscholastic championship team, it is important to set clear expectations for students and coaches and demonstrate and enforce the rules (Allard,2007, p 235)" As a teacher, it is your responsibility to make sure that the children in your class understand both their rights and responsibilities. 1) Not all rights are absolute.  There are limits to the type of behavior that is acceptable in schools. Example, there is no right to privacy in restrooms, locker rooms, hallways or other public facilities. 2) Some rights must be maintained by teachers and administrators because they are important for the school environment to work smoothly. Examples, students have a right to learn in an environment free from unnecessary harassment or corporal punishment. If you see students mistreating each other, do not hesitate to step in before something worse happens. 3) Some rights are controversial and will raise strong feelings among some people. If you choose to discuss these issues with students use appropriate language and always act respectfully towards each student's viewpoint . cfa1e77820
